Legal Counsel
Michael J. Kinkelaar is a partner at Procopio Cory where he has practiced for the past 27 years. He is the partner in charge of the firm’s Corporate, M & A, and Securities Practice Group.
Mike acts as outside general corporate counsel for many companies from numerous industries, with a particular focus on start-up ventures, emerging growth technology companies, and technology-based transactions. Mike provides corporate, securities, intellectual property, business and tax advice to companies and their shareholders, directors, officers, and investors in a variety of areas. His specializations include formation, capital structuring, seed and venture financing, mergers and acquisitions, technology licensing, joint ventures, corporate partnering, contract structuring and negotiation, and other business and tax issues.
Mike received his undergraduate degree in finance, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois and his law degree in 1982 from the University of California at San Francisco, Hastings College of Law. He served for many years on the Executive Advisory Committees for the CONNECT Financial Forum, and the San Diego Software and Internet Council Investment Conference and he participates in other various committees and forums involving technology companies.
He currently serves on the Executive Committees of two nonprofit boards, the Junior Seau Foundation and the San Diego Repertory Theatre, and is also a member of the board of directors of CONNECT, a San Diego based organization which supports and promotes emerging technology and life science companies.
